Description:
The Range Technician supports land management agencies in maintaining and monitoring rangeland resources across public lands. This position involves working outdoors in a variety of conditions to collect data, implement range improvement projects, and assist in the stewardship
of grazing allotments and native plant communities. Range Technicians provide essential echnical support to Rangeland Management Specialists, Biologists, and other resource staff by ensuring that healthy, sustainable rangeland conditions are maintained for multiple uses such as livestock grazing, wildlife habitat, and recreation.

Responsibilities:
- Collect field data on vegetation, soil, water, and range conditions using standardized monitoring methods.
- Assist in conducting rangeland inventories and assessments, including utilization, trend, and ecological site monitoring.
- Support the implementation of range improvement projects (e.g., fencing, water developments, vegetation treatments).
- Monitor grazing allotments for compliance with permits and land management plans.
- Use GPS units, GIS software, and data sheets to record and manage monitoring information.
- Maintain field equipment, vehicles, and tools necessary for range-related work.
- Collaborate with range management staff, permittees, and partner organizations.
- Prepare basic reports and summaries of field observations for use by specialists and managers.
- Promote safe field practices and adhere to agency safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of natural resources, rangeland ecology, or related fields (coursework or experience in botany, ecology, soil science, or agriculture preferred).
- Ability to identify common rangeland plant species, or willingness to learn plant identification in the field.
- Comfort working outdoors in variable weather and terrain, sometimes in remote areas.
- Basic skills in data collection, GPS navigation, and computer software (Excel, GIS preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established scientific methods.
- Good communication and teamwork skills for working with agency staff, landowners, and the public.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as hiking, lifting equipment, and working long days in the field.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in natural resources, rangeland management, or environmental science preferred.
